Fatal Shark Attack on Maui
Surfer bitten in Paia Bay succumbs to injuries
Yesterday a few friends on Maui texted me: “Shark attack in Paia Bay.” I know the spot very well, because I lived near Paia in 2019 and surfed Paia Bay almost every day.
This morning I was saddened to hear the news that the 30-year-old man has died in hospital from his injuries. The shark in question was almost certainly a Tiger (Galeocerdo cuvier) which have extremely powerful jaws and a scythe-shaped tooth with a serrated edge that has far more cutting power than the triangular tooth of a Great White.
Paia Bay is conveniently located for residents of Maui’s North Shore and the surf break on the east side of the beach can be great fun.
The trouble with the place is that, during good swell conditions, the water can get a murky brown color. Tiger sharks enter the bay seeking their favorite prey—sea turtles, which are abundant in the area. In the murky water with poor visibility, a shark will occasionally bite a surfer or swimmer. Last year, a female tourist from France lost her left arm to a shark bite while swimming in Paia Bay, but survived the ordeal.
To be sure, once a year is still an extremely rare event. Every year, tens of thousands of surfers and bathers enjoy Paia Bay without incident. I surfed for hours every day for months without incident. I’m certain the occasional tiger shark was in our midst and was able to ascertain the difference between a surfboard and a turtle.
Good tips for avoiding sharks are:
1). Avoid swimming in murky water. Stick with clear water with good visibility.
2). Avoid swimming near river mouths, where tiger sharks cruise looking for food.
Immediately started comparing shark bite chances to vaxxine injuries! Sorry, it's not going away until we REVAMP the entire pfarma/medical system. The Jaws Soundtrack should start EVERY time someone gets the vaxx. Preferably in the parking lot before they even get near a needle.
It’s very interesting that you posted this article. I just had a conversation with a good friend who lives in Australia. We were discussing the frequency of shark attacks over the past couple of years. Not only shark attacks, but attacked from other animals as well. Not to come off as “crazy” - but in these current times, it seems like “anything goes”. So here goes: I wonder if there is a correlation with vaccinated individuals and these shark (or other animals - gators, etc) attacks. In the second documentary produced by Stew Peters - “End of Days” or “End Times” (the exact name escapes me but it’s easy to find in Rumble) - great detail is spent on talking about the blue tooth codes that are being emitted by vaccinated individuals. Even in the cemetery the computer was picking up blue tooth codes - which were then traced to the gravesite of a person who died around 11/21. Anyway - I wonder if there’s something to that, regarding animals who are sensitive to these signals - maybe in an aggressive way such as with their typical prey animals. Has anyone talked about this as of yet? It’s on my mind every time I hear of yet another attack.
