I agree, but we’re both totally romantic. In reality, as George Bush said 20 years ago in defense of his Israeli-inspired Global War Of Terror, the constitution is just a piece of paper. I’ve known that for years, but sometimes wax romantic. Humans holding power have long used “rule of law” sophistry to facilitate their crimes.

shrub said it's just a g-d piece of paper. that is one of the failings of the Constitution. There is no penalty, no sanctions for ignoring it. Along with ambiguity, leaving room for interpretation. Anyway constitutions in general mean nothing because they are typically ignored anyway.
Look at Liberia or the old constitution of the USSR.
“But whether the Constitution really be one thing, or another, this much is certain - that it has either authorized such a government as we have had, or has been powerless to prevent it. In either case it is unfit to exist.”― Lysander Spooner, https://www.goodreads.com/work/quotes/2095916

You show great self-respect, and respect for me through your conscientious comments. We are in agreement.

In the end, "rule of law" is always nullified by humans holding power. As Madison noted, all humans holding power ought to be mistrusted.
The document hasn't failed sir, the humans administering it have failed and always will.
That is true. This is also true.
