Departures from the "runup area " to the handoff to departure control and arrivals from approach until clear of the active runway . He's talking almost continuously. The professionalism after the incident is also awesome .

There is no question that the U.S. military does great harm in the world. Its immense expense and gargantuan size can only be justified if the objective is to dominate the world by force and violence. That is a mission that does require over 900 bases around the world and by far the world's largest navy.
However, if the mission is redefined as the defense of the United States people and the territory on which they live, it could be accomplished with a military establishment perhaps half the size and expense, or less. Certainly the defense of the territory of the U.S. does not require a dozen aircraft carrier groups, to project air power around the world. Most of those hugely expensive carrier groups could be scrapped. We could get by with just a few, like Russia and China do.
Nor does the national defense require military bases in all the sectors of the world. We could make do with mostly just those bases we have in the continental U.S., with a few outliers (Pearl Harbor, for example).
Of course, such a policy would require that we live as the nation's founders originally intended, with the main instruments of our national defense being trade and peaceful diplomacy. As John Quincy Adams remarked, "America goes not abroad seeking monsters to destroy." As a peaceful citizen of a multi-polar world, there would be far less need for the U.S. to have a huge, wasteful military establishment.
I gave you a "like" but I don't think being "trans" had anything to do with it. The problem is the fucking established chopper route bends into the glideslope of Reagan runway 33. And not only does it go directly in front of the runway 33 threshold, it calls for the chopper pilot to be at 200 feet !! That's about the altitude a Reagan runway 33 bound aircraft will be at that point - actually maybe 400 feet, but you MUST have a margin of error. If the aircraft is 100 feet low, and the chopper is 100 feet high, {remember 100 feet in the air is practically NOTHING} then BOOM !! This was a disaster waiting to happen.
I think these problems all come down to proper management and command.
Rules exist for operating government helicopters safely. The mid-levels are not reporting poor flight operations everytime they happen, and the higher-ups don't enforce the rules when they do find out. It's laziness and self-serving behavior.

The military has said that their helicopters can be remote controlled by someone on the ground.
Pilot has night vision goggles on. Do those read instruments?

Certainly the defense of the territory of the U.S. does not require a dozen aircraft carrier groups, to project air power around the world. Most of those hugely expensive carrier groups could be scrapped. We could get by with just a few, like Russia and China do.
Nor does the national defense require military bases in all the sectors of the world. We could make do with mostly just those bases we have in the continental U.S., with a few outliers (Pearl Harbor, for example).
Of course, such a policy would require that we live as the nation's founders originally intended, with the main instruments of our national defense being trade and peaceful diplomacy. As John Quincy Adams remarked, "America goes not abroad seeking monsters to destroy." As a peaceful citizen of a multi-polar world, there would be far less need for the U.S. to have a huge, wasteful military establishment.

I gave you a "like" but I don't think being "trans" had anything to do with it. The problem is the fucking established chopper route bends into the glideslope of Reagan runway 33. And not only does it go directly in front of the runway 33 threshold, it calls for the chopper pilot to be at 200 feet !! That's about the altitude a Reagan runway 33 bound aircraft will be at that point - actually maybe 400 feet, but you MUST have a margin of error. If the aircraft is 100 feet low, and the chopper is 100 feet high, {remember 100 feet in the air is practically NOTHING} then BOOM !! This was a disaster waiting to happen.
I think these problems all come down to proper management and command.
Rules exist for operating government helicopters safely. The mid-levels are not reporting poor flight operations everytime they happen, and the higher-ups don't enforce the rules when they do find out. It's laziness and self-serving behavior.
Maybe I missed it, but has there been a definitive answer explaining what the chopper was doing hovering around a civilian airport?? Some uneasy feelings are in my mind.
I've now read the helicopter was at an altitude 150 feet over where it should have been which put it in the direct path of the plane descending to land. Between that huge error and having one air traffic controller covering two jobs at such a busy airport 67 people are dead. This should not have happened but it did happen and I am sick of all those lovely nice soft spoken people who want everyone to quiet down and wait 6 months for the news cycle to lose interest and the report that covers up all the errors to finally come out. The truth is coming out. The demodopes wouldn't hire 1000 qualified air traffic controllers a few years ago because they were too white. During Covid they didn't even consider Air Traffic Controllers essential workers? Seriously? Then they begged and pleaded all the DEI's to apply and couldn't come up with enough to fully staff the airport towers all over this country so they continued along with 2/3 of the staffing needed rather than hire qualified white people. This is INSANE stuff but not surprising given that Mr Buttabirdbrain was too busy having designer babies made to order and taking mapaternity leave on the taxpayers dime.
